Perennial Lavender: A Study in Monochromatic Designs
Monochromatic color schemes use a color (hue), tints and shades. Stampin’ Up! has created color families that are perfect for monochromatic designs.
The Perennial Lavender Suite has so many wonderful elements. This card only shows off a couple of them. The stamps, DSP, and dies were a perfect place to start to show off the design style of monochromatics. Monochramatic means one color. However, as you can see, I have used two colors from the Stampin’ Up! Collection. The Blooming Pearls and the Brodered Ribbon in Lost Lagoon complimented the color scheme perfectly.
The reason these colors work so well together is because Stampin’ Up! workse to create ‘Color Buddies’ which are colors that are based on the same hue and are change by making them lighter (adding white) or darker (adding black). If you are limited in the amount of paper you can have in your collection, monochrmatic designs are definitely a must in you arsenal.
This is the same design using Petal Pink and Flirty Flamingo. It certainly changes the whole feel of the card! It is still a monochromatic design. The petal pink is much lighter than the Flirty Flamingo. This more white added to the original color. It’s like being in Home Depot and adding a few drops of color into a gallon of white paint. Still the same color just a tint of that color.
